How to Detox Your Armpits

June 15, 2019

Recently, I made the switch from using a standard deodorant to a natural one. I tried a number of brands before I found my favorite natural deodorant option, but prior to that, I could never make it past a few days before giving up on them. Obviously this is frustrating and it’s the issue that many people cite for not being able to stick with natural deodorant.

After doing a little digging, I learned that there’s an adjustment period for your body to detox from the chemicals and heavy metals found in standard deodorants. Hello! This totally made sense to me, so I kept searching for more information and here’s what I found:

THE ADJUSTMENT PERIOD

It can take up to 14 days for your body to adjust to a new deodorant and during this time you may feel all the icky stuff that comes along with trying a new way to control what happens with your pits. If you want to speed up the process, you can detox! Hooray! A shortcut! 🙂

WHAT YOU’RE DETOXING FROM YOUR BODY

Standard deodorants and antiperspirants contain a number of ingredients that could be sabotaging your health. Your body is supposed to sweat! It’s the how you purge toxins, so anything that is created to keep you from sweating is in fact causing you to retain toxins.

These are a few ingredients to be on the lookout for when purchasing deodorant:

  • Aluminum – linked to cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Phthalates – Endocrine (hormone) disruptor
  • Propylene Glycol – antifreeze
  • Formaldehyde – carcinogen
  • Parabens – Endocrine distruptor

DETOX RECIPE

UNDERARM DETOX

INGREDIENTS:

1 Tablespoon of Bentonite Clay
1 Tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar
1-2 teaspoons of water

Mix until it becomes a smooth paste.

Apply the paste over your arm pits and allow it to sit for 5 – 20 minutes.

***Don’t use metal for applying this paste. Try to use something free of heavy metals and toxins such as a wood spoon, a spatula or your hands.

You can start with short periods of time in the beginning and work your way up. This will give you time to see how your body reacts. Redness can occur but won’t stay long and should dissipate quickly. Repeat as often as you’d like!
