Ditch the Plastic: 5 Reasons to Use a Wooden Comb

February 23, 2018

Dry, tangled hair is a real bummer. I’m a big fan of deep conditioner, argan oil and all that other stuff to keep your mane hydrated and happy, but stacking the deck to ensure your hair is getting first class treatment is always a good idea. Recently, I learned about the benefits of ditching my plastic brushes and combs for the conditioning properties of the wooden ones, so here are the top 5 reasons to make the switch.

Ya’ll! Hello!! If this isn’t reason enough to make the switch, then I don’t know what is. Brushing with plastic causes static and static causes frizz which makes for a bad hair day. #nope

Using a wooden comb eliminates this issue which in turn saves you money on styling products that are made to reduce frizz.

Yes, you read that correctly. Wooden combs are treated with oils that naturally condition your hair. I think it goes without saying, but that will help on the cost of your expensive conditioners. Less product means saving money!

Your hair tends to be weakest when it’s wet and using a plastic brush is a recipe for breaking the hair. Over time, the heat from hairdryers will damage plastic bristles causing small ridges that are sharp. This breaks the hairs right off. Switching to a high quality wooden comb will eliminate this issue. As long as you properly care for your comb, it will keep a smooth edge for a very long time.

A gentle wooden comb moves your scalp’s oils throughout your hair creating the shine nature intended for it to have. This is a great way to start repairing damaged, dry and brittle hair. Combing through your hair a few times a day with a wooden comb will distribute the oils evenly and gently. Shine on darling! Shine on!

Sign me up for a scalp massage! No scraping or bruising here! Metal, plastic and other tools tend to scrape your scalp, but wooden combs do not. This will allow the pores on your scalp to function the way they are supposed to so your oils can condition your hair! It also keeps your scalp’s protective barrier in place which will keep infection causing bacteria and fungus away.

My favorite wooden comb is the Sariskiz Pistis Bocote Comb. It’s pocket size, so you can take it anywhere. Slip it into your purse, your beach bag or your carry on bag when you’re flying.  I recently took it to the Bahamas on my vacation and it was ideal for all those beach days. Bye bye wind blown frizz!

As a gift to my readers, my friends at Sariskiz are offering you 15% off of your purchase of a wooden comb with the code HELLOLESA. It’s good until March 31, 2018.

Ok lovelies! Thanks for reading and stay fabulous.
